Narendra Modi remains a popular Prime Minister with 74% approval rating

Mint-Instavaani poll was conducted in November, after Bihar election results but before Modi’s speech in Parliament on Friday when he reached out to the opposition
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rating remains high at 74%, according to a poll conducted by Mint and InstaVaani in November. The poll was conducted in the last week of the month, after the declaration of the results of the Bihar assembly election, in which Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance lost but before his speech in Parliament on Friday when he reached out to the opposition.
The results prove that people continue to have high expectations of Modi, said Sandeep Shastri, pro-vice-chancellor, Jain University, and director of its Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education. “The high rating can also be attributed to the absence of a strong alternative to Modi” in the public’s eye, he added.
The approval of 74% reflects a marginal dip for Modi from 79% in August, and 82% last August.
In May, when his government and he completed a year in office, his approval rating was 74% again.
“There is some level of disillusionment” but expectations “are still high”, said Shastri.
Modi’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s rating was 70%.

“The popularity of Prime Minister Modi continues to remain high because the people of the country understand and relate to his ideas, and they believe in the promises made by the prime minister,” said Sidharth Nath Singh, the national secretary and spokesperson of the BJP.

Acche din going strong: Survey shows Narendra continues to ride Modi wave among Indians

Since his sweeping victory in the general elections, the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a survey reveals, remains untarnished. Critics who thought that his adoration would wane over time have been proven wrong with this study.
US think tank Pew Research Center says in its report that 'two-thirds of the Indian public is satisfied with the direction of the country and eight-in-ten think the economy is doing well.'
The survey was conducted from April 7 to May 24 this year and covered 2,464 respondents.
Here are five charts that show Modi's 'continuing honeymoon' and 'acche din' with the Indians:

1. Wave of contentment:

The survey indicates that public satisfaction with India's current direction increased by 36 per cent since 2013, when the previous government was in power. A strong majority (81%) hold a favourable view of Modi, including 57% who have a very favorable opinion of him. A similar proportion of the public (80%) expresses a positive view of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

2. Rising tide of the economy

Eight out of ten Indians believe the economy is doing well. The economy is up six points from last year and 16 per cent more than when Modi was elected in 2014. Now, 80 per cent are satisfied with the country's economy, with only a handful who hold a negative view.

Modi's popularity cuts across demographic groups
Modiji's personality charmed both men and women among all age groups, educational backgrounds and income levels. It's not just 94 per cent of the BJP followers who admire the leader of their party, but also 61 per cent of the rival Congress party adherents see him favourably, says the survey.
More than half the population thinks that Modi is 'someone who can get things done' and his party adherents feel he is 'more sensitive to their needs than Congress party supporters'. While 49 per cent of Indians say Modi brings people together

India's populist PM presided over 7.4% GDP growth in his first year in office, and raised his profile as a global leader during official visits with Barack Obama and Xi Jinping. A barnstorming tour of Silicon Valley reinforced his nation's massive importance in tech. But governing 1.2 billion people requires more than shaking hands: Now Modi must pass his party's reform agenda and keep fractious opposition under control.
